Some of the college’s research foci include: neurodegenerative disease such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease, HIV/ AIDS, health disparities, environmental toxicity, diabetes and obesity interventions, asthma, community based participation research, public health policy analysis, health economics, health systems analysis, cancer, cardiopulmonary disease, neurodegenerative disease, and the emerging area of “environmental impacts” (which encompasses emerging health threats such as climate change).  Stempel College is home to two Emerging Preeminent Programs: The Brain Behavior and Environment Program and Health Inequities and Disparities Program.
